Description

You are warmly invited to attend the final concert of the 40th anniversary season of the Portland Columbia Symphony, an organization that is near and dear to me. Not only is this a fantastic orchestra, but I am also currently the president of the board (and I play English horn on this concert). The program is called Pictures & Reflections and features:
The Devil’s Dance from the movie The Witches of Eastwick, by John Williams
Reflections on the MIssissippi, for tuba and orchestra, by Michael Daugherty
Pictures at an Exhibition, by Modest Mussorgsky

Our tuba soloist is JaTtik Clark from the Oregon Symphony. If you’ve never heard him play as a soloist, you are in for a real treat. He is amazing!

The concert will be performed twice.
Friday May 5 at 7:30 pm at First United Methodist in Portland
Sunday May 7 at 3:00 pm at Gresham HS Performing Arts Center

Tickets and more information are here: https://pcsymphony.org/events/pictures-reflections/

If you come to the Friday concert, please join me for a post-concert reception at The Legends (just a couple of blocks away) hosted by Slate and Davida Wilson.

We’ve had an outstanding year, the first one with a full season of live orchestral concerts since 2020, and the orchestra sounds better than ever. We have been working hard to live into our slogan: Great Music, Close-Up. And we work constantly to fulfill our mission of cultivating and championing a diverse community of musicians and audiences through affordable and accessible performances. Each season we intentionally showcase living, local, and female composers and collaborators who represent our diverse and changing community. I hope you’ll join me in supporting this hidden gem in our musical community (and make it less hidden)!

All best wishes,
Ann van Bever
Oboe/Oboe d’amore/English horn player and teacher
